ORGNISATION
The
India
Post
under
the
Ministry
of
Communications
and Information
Technology continues to function
under Shri. Arun Shourie , Minister
for Disinvestment, Communications
and Information Technology.
Shri. Thirunavukkarasar is
the Minister of State
for Communications & Information
Technology.
Shri. Vijay Bushan is the Secretary, Department
of Posts , Director General , India
Post and
the Chairman
of the Postal Services Board.
The
Postal
Services
Board,
the
apex
management body of the
Department, comprises
the
Chairman and
three Member .
The three members of
the Board hold portfolios of Operations,
Infrastructure
& Financial Services
, and Personnel.
The Joint Secretary and Financial Adviser to the
Department
is a permanent invitee
to the Board.
The Board is assisted
by a senior officer of the
Directorate
as Secretary to the
Board and presently DDG
(MM & TS) is assisting the Board in
this
capacity.
Dy. Directors General,
Directors and Assistant Directors General provide
necessary support
for
the Board at the Headquarter.
For
providing
postal
services,
the
whole
country
has
been
divided
into
22 Postal
Circles.
Each
circle is co - terminus
with a State except in case of the
North Eastern Circle comprises six North
Eastern
States , Maharashtra Circle
includes the State of Goa, West Bengal Circle includes the
State of
Sikkim
and the Union
Territory of Andaman
and Nicobar Islands, Kerala Circle
includes the Union
Territory
of Lakshadweep
and Punjab Circle includes the
Union Territory of Chandigarh.
A Principal
Chief
Postmaster General/Chief Postmaster General heads
each of these Circles.
Each circle is divided
into
Regions comprising groups of field units, called
Divisions (Postal/RMS Divisions).
Each Region is
headed
by a
Postmaster General who is the Postal Manager of the area.
In the Circles and Regions
there
are other functional supporting logistical units
like Circle Stamp Depots, Postal Stores Depots and
Mail
Motor Service etc.
