General Information for Participants

Location of PSCI

               Postal Staff College India (PSCI), Ghaziabad is situated by the side of the Advanced Level Telecom Training Centre (ALTTC) on Raispur Road. It is near the District Hospital, Sanjay Nagar. The most popular locality nearby is Sector 23 of Raj Nagar. If coming by a taxi or auto, the participants should ask for “Postal Staff College” near ALT Centre and then take Raispur Road to reach PSCI..

How to Reach to PSCI

(i)                 From Railway Station by road

 

Most fast trains do not stop at Ghaziabad and hence you will have to get down at Delhi or New Delhi Railway Station. EMU train services are available between Delhi / New Delhi station for Ghaziabad. Ghaziabad Railway station is approx. 30 Kms from Delhi / New Delhi station and it takes 45 minutes to reach by EMU train. The Distance from Ghaziabad Railway Station to PSCI is about 6 Km. Auto Rickshaws charge approx. Rs. 70/- for PSCI from Ghaziabad Railway Station. You should say that you want to go to Postal Staff College near ALT Centre. At present this is the most convenient way to reach PSCI from New Delhi / Delhi Railway Stations. EMU Train  timing are :-

From New Delhi Rly. Station   : 0010, 0040, 0805, 0822, 0905, 0910, 0955, 1000, 1033, 1050, 1220, 1415, 1548, 1602, 1740, 1755, 2102, 2310 Hrs.

From Old Delhi Rly. Station    : 0027, 0100, 0530, 0710, 0850, 0900, 0920, 0930, 0932, 1000, 1053, 1155, 1245, 1300, 1630, 1655, 1725, 1815, 1830, 2010, 2121 Hrs.

 

If you get down at Nizamuddin Railway Station, please note that there is no EMU service to Ghaziabad from Nizamuddin.

(ii)               From Railway Station by road / Metro Train Services

 

From Delhi/New Delhi/ Nizamuddin Station taxis are available for Ghaziabad (PSCI) and the charge will be appx. Rs. 500/- (before 10 pm). But generally, it is difficult to find willing taxi drivers.

From New Delhi and / or Delhi Station you can avail of Delhi Metro (Train) Service and get down at Anand Vihar Metro Station (which is at the border of UP and Delhi). Near this Metro Station ‘Pacific Mall’, a Departmental Store, is located. Private buses for ALT centre (Ghaziabad) are available in front of Pacific Mall at regular intervals. You can take the bus and get down at the last bus stop (i.e. ALT Centre). From there you should take a cycle rickshaw to reach PSCI. The Distance from Anand Vihar to ALT Centre is about 16 Km (Bus fare Rs. 15) and from ALT Centre to PSCI half a kilometer (Cycle rickshaw fare Rs. 10).

Taxis are also available at Anand Vihar (Near Pacific Mall) to come to come to PSCI. It will cost about Rs. 350.

 

(iii)              From Delhi Airport

 

From Delhi Airport a taxi can be hired for ALT Centre/PSCI. The distance is 65 Km. The route would be via Ring Road up to Nizamuddin Bridge and then to Ghaziabad as per map enclosed. Charges will be around Rs. 1000/-.   You should always approach the Prepaid taxi service counter to hire a taxi. MERU / Radio taxis are also available. They, however, cost approx. 30 % more.

Airport Express train service is now available between Airport and New Delhi Station. From New Delhi railway station you can reach PSCI as stated at Para (i) and (ii).

When should you arrive and when can you depart

You are advised to arrive one day before the commencement of the training. The Hostel Reception desk is manned 24 hours. Hence you can arrive any time.

On the last day you can leave only after valediction and completion of the Course. Usually the valedictory function gets over by 1730 hrs. PSCI provides transportation up to Anand Vihar bus terminal by Staff Bus at around 1800 hours in one trip on completion of training. From Anand Vihar you will get bus/taxi/auto rickshaw/metro service to reach airport/railway station. Arrangement for hiring of taxis on payment basis from local agencies can be made by PSCI to go to Airport /Railway station. You should  contact the PSCI Office in advance for making this arrangement.

                Please note that you can not reach the Airport before 8.30 P.M. after the valediction. Hence it is advisable to leave by air on the next day. If you are planning to depart by train, then departure of the train should be after 20.30 hrs. It takes about 2 hours to reach New Delhi/Delhi railway station in the evening.

Training Sessions

                Training is given in the Training Block located inside the Campus. Distance between the hostel & training block is just about 100 meters. The lecture halls and the computer labs are all located  on the second floor of the building. You should reach your assigned lecture hall before 0930 hrs on the first day for the registration formalities. The training starts at 1000 hrs and finishes at 1730 hours on a typical day. The College has 3 well equipped lecture halls, 3 computer labs, 3 syndicate rooms and  one audio visual room.  Participants are expected to dress formally while attending the training sessions. Mobile phones have to be kept in ‘Switch off’ position during training sessions.

                You can get a laptop issued in your name for use during the training period. Please request your Course Director for this.

Accommodation in the Hostel

PSCI has its hostel in the Campus, where 60 participants are accommodated. The rooms are furnished and have all facilities like TV set, geyser, A/C, Broadband, intercom, bathroom slipper etc. Washing machine, Drier, Ironing facilities are also available. A washerman comes in the morning to collect clothes for washing and ironing on payment basis. Generally, rooms are allotted on single occupancy basis. Accommodation for families of the participants is not available.

The Hostel has its own Recreation room, TV lounge and a cyber room. If you want a newspaper in your room please contact the Reception desk.

Rooms are cleaned daily in the morning at around 1000 hrs. Duplicate keys are available with the caretaker to open your room. In case you notice that your room is not cleaned or some particular gadget is not working, kindly write about this in the Complaint Book kept at the Hostel Reception Desk. You should keep your valuables safely and lock the almirahs.

The Hostel charges are as below:

                For pay beyond Rs. 16400/- (Old Scale)  Rs. 20/-                

                        For pay upto Rs. 16,400/-(Old Scale)        Rs. 16/-                

Mess Arrangements

Mess is  co-operatively managed by a Mess Committee. You have to pay in advance on weekly basis to the Mess Secretary for mess charges.  All meals, tea etc are provided in the mess dining hall.

The charges for the Mess are:-

Rebate is not given if you do not take either a break-fast or lunch or dinner. However, the Mess Secretary may give some rebate if you do not take your meals for three consecutive days.

Climate

                The climate of Ghaziabad is somewhat extreme. It is pretty cold down to 3 degree C at night in December / January. Cold weather is experienced from October to March.  Summer is experienced from April to September and monsoon from mid-June to mid- September.  The mercury touches 44 to 45 degree C in May/June.  One should, therefore, come properly equipped with clothing as per the climatic conditions here. Bringing a pair of formal shoes is a must. You may also bring a pair of walking shoes.

Other facilities

Nearest State Bank of India branches are inside the ALT Centre and at Sanjay Nagar.  A PNB branch is located nearby in Sector 11 Raj Nagar.   Both these banks have ATMs around the college.

            PSCI Post Office is located inside the campus.

For making STD calls a P.C.O. booth is available near the Hostel Reception desk.

            The nearest market is within walking distance at Sector 23 Raj Nagar.

 

Medical Facilities

            CGHS Dispensary at Kamala Nehru Nagar is about 1 Km from PSCI.  You are advised to bring your CGHS Card to avail of any dispensary facilities as per rules.  You can take medical consultation /treatment from the following hospitals/clinics for any illness. The medical expenses will have to be borne by you. In emergency and exceptional cases advances can, however, be given by the PSCI.

Sports, Fitness and Recreation

            PSCI has a Gymnasium equipped with cardio and weight training equipments among others.

Table Tennis, Chess, Billiards, Carom boards and facilities for various outdoor sports such as Badminton, Cricket, Football, Volley ball, Lawn Tennis, Basketball are all available in the campus. PSCI has also a walking track of about 1 Km length along the boundary wall of the campus.

            Yoga and Pranayam Classes (conducted by an expert) are held every morning for all participants in the front lawn / multi-purpose hall. You will get information about this on the very first day.

            The college encourages the participants to put up a cultural show in one evening.

 

 

Library

            A well equipped library with 12,000 books and 70 Magazines is available. The Library remains open up to 1900 hrs. You can get books/magazines issued in your name from the Library.

Audio-Visual Room

            For training purposes and also for entertainment, an Audio-Visual Room is there on the ground floor of Administrative Block. DVDs of popular English/ Indian feature films, training films, documentaries etc are available for issue of the participants.
